I have read so many books and memoirs. I have enjoyed and admired good writers, especially those who traverse cultures, traditions, genders, and class. If I read the same book more than once, it becomes more than ample curiosity for me. I must admit that a lack of understanding is not the reason I am reading this memoir for the fourth time. But the energy... it is infectious. It is electricity. It is a life narrated by a person whose overwhelming conditions and circumstances could have easily compelled her to give up. This memoir has beautiful ways of identifying and waking up nostalgic and challenging memories in the lives of all the people whose experiences include living in the East, West, or Central Africa in the past fifty years till now. The memoir is captivating, written in a lucid and sparkling tone. There is something for everyone in it. It is such a display of intellectual sagacity with conviction and appeal. It could not have been published at a better time, when so many of our young people no longer see society and institutions as a template for adult reference. The incredible resilience, tenacity, and discipline outlined in the memoir clearly instruct me, and I believe many others, on the need to persevere and never lose hope. I owe a world of gratitude to the writer whose stress is on the family interconnectedness, as a great value and relevance, instead of temporal immunity and protection offered by money without hard work and determination.

This powerful book based on true events completely pulled me in, I couldn t put it down. That brave girl had me on edge with suspense, brought me to tears, and still left me with a sense of hope by the end. I highly reccomend it.
